Nano with mingw32 for msysgit

If you are an ardent git user and a die hard nano fan but forced to work with Windows, you could face some disappointment while using msysgit. msysgit uses a mingw32 shell as a git bash but doesn’t let you edit simple text files with nano. Instead one is forced to use vi or vim editors. Luckily, I found a way around to overcome this trouble.

Download the WinNT/9x binary, .zip format nano from here. Unzip the archive and rename the unzipped folder from nano-2.x.x to nano.

Now, move this nano folder to the share subfolder of your Git installation. In my case it is, C:\Program Files\Git\share. You will also find the vi and vim directories in the share folder.

Now create a text file on your Desktop and paste the following code inside:

#!/bin/sh
exec /share/nano/nano.exe "$@"

Name this file as nano (without any extension). Now open the windows command prompt (cmd.exe) as an Administrator and copy this file to bin subfolder of your Git installation, using the copy command. In my case it is, C:\Program Files\Git\bin.

Now start the Git bash and open any text file using nano!

The yarn of the ancient mariner

Blurry starry gaze,
gaping into the sea.
A tall and furry man,
sailing & sippin’ tea.
Gustave_Dore_Ancient_Mariner_Illustration
Strange and unusual he called it,
his arms felt velvet.
Standing at the bow with his slicked hair,
creating a picturesque silhouette.

Putting down his cup of tea,
he sat down to pen a thought or two.
Little did he realise,
his legs were velvet too.

He felt open and free,
it reflected in his poetry.
He didn’t have to try too hard,
to get the symmetry.

“Ahoy!”, he exclaimed,
at his fellow sailor.
“I need more coal in there!”,
with the voice of a dictator.

As he saw the knots increase,
he experienced a new feeling.
Wind-in-the-hair, had
a new found meaning.

He stormed down into his cabin,
his faced utterly demused.
Only to find out that,
he had his soap and shampoo confused!

    Thoughts..

    At 8..

    Why does the sun rise?

    Why does the earth rotate?

    What is the sun?

    What is the earth?

    Who are all these people?

    Where did they come from?

How would it be if I were a plant for one day?

    At 16..

Why does the sun rise so early?

What would happen if the earth rotated any faster or slower?

    Why do people look different?

Why are there so many languages?

Why are there so many countries?

    Who made these countries?

Why do most of the international borders look like straight lines?

Are people totally different on either sides of these lines?

    Why do people fight?

Why isn’t the north pole, the south pole?

Why is there so much pollution?

Why is it so difficult to maintain peace?

    I like Lennon & Harrison.

Karl Marx’s full name is Karl Heinrich Marx and he was from Germany.

I don’t fully understand Marxism but I would like to, someday.

I will bring peace to this world.

My thoughts are obviously much more mature than the rest of this world and I will heal the world someday.

    I am a hippie!

Why is the US meddling with the whole world?

    At 24..

The sun rises at different times in different parts of the world. The poles have month-long days and nights.

The different countries have different cultures and there is a reason behind that.

Gandhi’s ideologies of peace and brotherhood are rather difficult to understand. I understand. The world doesn’t. Ok, some counties do. The rest don’t.

    Why did Lennon marry Yoko?

Karl Marx….? Heard of him. Was he Russian or something?

There is no difference between Marxism and communism. Democracy is the order of the day.

Peace can be achieved only when the bad elements of certain countries are totally wiped out.

I don’t fully agree with what the US does.. But, I guess there is no other choice.

I will first develop my country and set an example for the rest.

I am somehow obliged.. because I am paid.

I think, I am a better person now. My thinking has matured compared to when I was 16. I hope I am like this, forever.

Is there any non-yellow media left today?

Peace and happiness everywhere, are utopian concepts and to get anywhere close to it requires gigantic strategies and multi-national planning. I will leave that to myself when I am 40 and successful.

The least I can do, is to write a blog.

What the hell do these leaders discuss at world conferences?

We all live in a yellow submarine..

    Scene:
A TV reporter interviewing a couple of like-minded people.

Reporter: Welcome to my show! Today is an important day in the history of this country and I am proud to have stirred this controversy up for the past few days.. So, Mr. Person1, what is your take on the verdict?

    Person1: I think it was a fair one! I totally accept…

Reporter: (Oh damn!) I’ll come back to you Mr. Person1… Person2 is right now online from the capital…

Person2: We totally agree with the verdict and respect the judiciary….

Reporter: (Cut the transmission!) So, Mr person1, do you agree with Person3′s viewpoints.. because you both seem to have conflict of interest…

    Person3: But I haven’t spoken yet!

Reporter: That really doesn’t matter…! We all still remmmmember what you had to say 3 weeks ago on this verrrrrrry show!

    Person3: But I….

Person1: Let me interrupt here and resolve this…

Reporter: See… there you go… You, Mr Person3 and 1 are at logger heads on National Television. Let me put this “on record”.

    Person4: (Cough)(Cough)…

Reporter: Mr Person4.. can you hold on for a second? Please do not speak out of turn. I need to give a chance to everyone.

    Person4: (Cleaning his ears)…… Yaaaaawwwn!

Reporter: So, we now have the nation’s most revered stage dancer commenting on this political turmoil…. Sir, can you hear me?

    Dancer: Hello….

Reporter: Mr. Dancer…. Do YOU or DO YOU not agree with the verdict?

Dancer: I don’t…. (think you can hear me…)

Reporter: There you go Mr. Person3.. The whole nation is against you… How do you feel to be on National Television and have conflicting viewpoints with the nation?

    Person3: I think….

Reporter: How can YOU… at this crucial hour, afford to think? Think about the men and women of this country. Don’t you think they deserve an answer? Isn’t this a bit too harsh on the common man? On this note.. I would like to end today’s show which seemed to have ended on a rather positive note. The whole nation seems to unanimously disagree with one another on, whether I should be curling my hair or just keep it simple & straight. Next week you can join me on the same show where the country’s top socio-economical think-tanks will come together for the very first time on this very show and on this very panel, discussing, How yellow is today’s journalism? Is it really yellow… medium yellow… or just a little bit yellow.. and what role does the media play in bringing about this colour? You can of course, post your views on twitter. My twitter handle is @reporter. Hope to see you next week. Good night!

    A heuristic approach to peace!

Political views based on the Horse-Shoe theory

The horse-shoe theory encompasses all possible political views and orientations along and within the boundaries of an imaginary two-dimensional horse-shoe! It also, cleverly, manages to group together and bring out the similarities between the extreme and opposite ends of this spectrum. What it also naïvely does, is to give a false impression of the existence of a close proximity between the Centrists’/Rationalists’ viewpoints and the still untainted values of peace, love and freedom.

There is a reason why Lennon’s views are hard to imagine. Freedom & peace belong to an entirely different plane (level) of thinking that seem far-fetched when viewed from closed-horse-shoe-quarters. Similarly, the closed-political-quarters seem minuscule when viewed from the plane of peace.

Climbing up the political ladder has a new meaning now!

PC here, PC there, PC PC everywhere!

All through my middle and high school, my poorly educated (& qualified) computer teacher, taught me this:

Computer is an electronic machine, which stores and handles information in many different ways.

She religiously made every student repeat this sentence, a million times in a year. Towards the end of my schooling days, the entire senior block of my school sounded like a Buddhist monastery! She was also one of the few teachers who believed that a strong theoretical foundation was necessary for a successful practical application. Therefore, for two years I learnt logo without having it ever written on a computer. By the time she decided to let her students feel the keyboard, it was too late… logo was out of date. C and C++ were the order of the day. Unfortunately, she was one of those people who thought that there was an intermediate language between C and C++ and often rambled about her expertise in C+ ! So, as a young junior college kid, I could FD 50, LT 90 and FD 60 from home to college! All this, probably, has nothing to do with this post.. which makes me wonder, why all titles should reflect their respective contents?!

On a completely (un-)related note, the dabbawalas are now being made computer-literate. They will now be taught to make beautiful charts [1] and presentations [2], which would be analysed by rectangularly-rimmed (eye-wear and thought wise) punks from some fancy B-school, who have been trained by their gurus, to strangle every last bit of simplicity in this world. The whole world is an isotropic ensemble of corporate boxes to these isomorphic and self-proclaimed digitisers of the earth.

Lennon said, that all people must live together as one.. in peacenot together as one piece.
